FBR offices and commercial bank branches will remain open until 10pm on September 30 to facilitate taxpayers making payments before the Tax Year 2026 deadline.
ISLAMABAD, September 30, 2026: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has extended working hours at its field offices and commercial bank branches until 10:00pm on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, to facilitate taxpayers in meeting the deadline for filing income tax returns for Tax Year 2026.
September 30 is the last date for filing annual income tax returns for the tax year, while the extended hours are intended to provide taxpayers with additional time to complete their tax payments before the deadline.
FBR directs field offices to remain open late
In a communication to chief commissioners of Inland Revenue, the FBR directed all Large Taxpayers’ Offices (LTOs), Corporate Tax Offices (CTOs) and Regional Tax Offices (RTOs) to observe extended working hours on September 30 until 10:00pm.
The directive aims to facilitate taxpayers completing the required procedures and depositing government duties and taxes on the final day of the return filing period.
SBP extends commercial banks’ working hours
Separately, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) has directed commercial bank branches across the country to remain open until 10:00pm on September 30 to facilitate the payment of government duties and taxes.
The central bank announced the arrangement on Tuesday following a request from the FBR. The extended banking hours will allow taxpayers to make over-the-counter (OTC) payments through commercial bank branches.
The SBP has also instructed banks to ensure the uninterrupted availability of digital payment channels, including internet banking, mobile banking applications, automated teller machines (ATMs) and other online platforms, enabling taxpayers to complete government-related transactions.
Special arrangements for government transactions
The SBP has further advised banks to coordinate with the National Institutional Facilitation Technologies (NIFT) system to ensure the smooth processing of government transactions.
Relevant bank branches have been directed to remain operational on September 30 for as long as necessary to support special clearing arrangements for government payments processed through NIFT.
Taxpayers urged to complete payments before deadline
The extended working hours at FBR offices and commercial banks are intended to reduce last-day difficulties for taxpayers seeking to fulfil their tax obligations for Tax Year 2026.
Taxpayers making payments on the final day should allow sufficient time for transactions to be processed and retain the relevant payment confirmation for their records.
The arrangements provide additional time for tax payments on September 30, while the annual income tax return filing deadline remains unchanged.
