Netflix has horror fans buzzing again with the release of the chilling trailer for Fear Street: Prom Queen, the latest film adaptation from R.L. Stine’s beloved Fear Street series.
Dropped on Tuesday, April 29, the trailer offers a blood-soaked sneak peek at what promises to be a throwback slasher dripping with ‘80s nostalgia.
Based on Stine’s 1992 novel Prom Queen, the film plunges viewers into the sinister world of Shadyside High, where prom season has taken a deadly turn. According to the official synopsis, the school’s elite group of It Girls is in the middle of their usual catty and cutthroat campaigns for the coveted prom queen crown. But the high school drama quickly spirals into horror when an unexpected outsider enters the competition—and contestants begin vanishing without a trace.
Set in 1988, Fear Street: Prom Queen is part of Netflix’s continued revival of the Fear Street universe. Director and co-writer Matt Palmer told Tudum that he wanted to tap into the iconic elements of the ‘80s slasher era, complete with dance scenes, retro music, and a healthy dose of gore. “With Senior Prom just two days away, the race for prom queen is already heating up,” he said. “But when someone starts slaughtering the prom queen candidates, all hell is set to break loose.”
The film features a standout cast including India Fowler, Suzanna Son, Fina Strazza, David Iacono, Ella Rubin, Chris Klein, Lili Taylor, Ariana Greenblatt, and Katherine Waterston, all caught in the chaotic countdown to a prom night no one will forget.
Fans of the Fear Street franchise won’t want to miss this twist-filled return to Shadyside. Fear Street: Prom Queen is set to premiere on May 23, just in time for the real-world prom season—though hopefully with far fewer casualties. With five girls vying for the prom queen title and a killer on the loose, this prom night is bound to be unforgettable.
