Repatriation of profit, dividend by foreign companies in Pakistan surges by 58 percent

KARACHI: The repatriation of profit and dividends by foreign companies operating in Pakistan has increased sharply by 58 percent during first half of current fiscal year, according to statistics released by State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) on Monday.

 

 

 

The repatriation of profit/dividend by against foreign investment increased to $1.202 billion during July – December, 2018 as compared with $759.5 million in the corresponding period of the last year.

Experts said that foreign companies engaged in oil and gas exploration, telecommunication, food and financial business had earned profits during the first half of the current fiscal year.

The repatriation of profit by telecommunication companies surged by almost four times to $166.6 million during first half of the current fiscal year as compared with $33.8 million in the corresponding period of the last fiscal year.

The profit repatriation by foreign energy companies rose by 100 percent to $141.4 million during first six months of current fiscal year as compared with $70.6 million in the corresponding months of the last fiscal year.

The repatriation of profit/dividend by financial business surged by 55 percent to $175.5 million during first half of the current fiscal year as compared with $113.2 million in the same period of the last fiscal year.

The repatriation of profit/dividend by foreign food companies also posted growth of 55 percent to $129.8 million during July – December, 2018 as compared with $83.7 million in the same period of the last year.

The position of country-wise repatriation of profit/dividend is: UK $260.2 million; UAE $133.8 million; Switzerland $131.8 million; Malta $129.8 million; USA $108 million etc.
