Profit and dividend repatriation jumps 72.6% month-on-month as FDI payments rise sharply, although July outflows remain below last year.
KARACHI: Foreign investors operating in Pakistan repatriated $261.4 million in profits and dividends in July 2026, according to data released by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP).
The latest SBP data on profit and dividend repatriation by country showed that foreign direct investment (FDI) accounted for $255 million of the total, while foreign portfolio investment (FPI) accounted for $6.3 million.
In June 2026, total repatriation stood at $151.4 million, comprising $140.6 million in FDI and $10.8 million in FPI.
The July figures represent an increase of around 72.6% month-on-month, largely driven by a sharp rise in repatriation related to foreign direct investment.
UK investors receive highest repatriation
Investors from the United Kingdom received the largest amount of profit and dividend repatriation among individual countries in July, with total payments of $47.2 million.
Of the UK-related repatriation, $46.9 million was linked to FDI, while $0.4 million was related to FPI.
The United States followed with total payments of $26.4 million, comprising $26 million in FDI and $0.3 million in FPI.
Investors from the Netherlands received $29.8 million in July, while investors from China received $114.1 million.
China’s entire July repatriation was attributed to FDI, making it one of the largest sources of profit and dividend payments during the month.
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) accounted for $14.7 million in total repatriation, including $10.5 million in FDI and $4.2 million in FPI.
Japan recorded $8 million in total payments, followed by Switzerland with $4.5 million and Türkiye with $3.6 million.
Singapore recorded total repatriation of $1.8 million, including $1.4 million in FDI and $0.4 million in FPI.
FDI repatriation rises sharply
The SBP data showed that profit and dividend repatriation through FDI increased from $140.6 million in June to $255 million in July 2026.
FPI-related payments, however, declined from $10.8 million in June to $6.3 million in July.
The increase in FDI-related repatriation was therefore the main factor behind the month-on-month rise in total payments.
July repatriation remains below last year
Despite the monthly increase, total profit and dividend repatriation remained below the level recorded a year earlier.
Total payments stood at $295 million in July 2025, comprising $294.8 million in FDI and $0.2 million in FPI.
On a year-on-year basis, July 2026 repatriation was therefore around 11.4% lower than the corresponding month of 2025.
The SBP data for July 2026 is provisional, while June 2026 figures are marked revised. The central bank notes that amounts shown as “0” represent less than $50,000, while a dash indicates nil payments.
