Shahid Imran calls for supportive spectrum policies, foreign investment and public-private partnerships to modernise agriculture, industry and digital services.
ISLAMABAD: The Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) has called for strategic investment in 5G infrastructure to accelerate Pakistan’s digital transformation and strengthen economic competitiveness.
FPCCI Regional Committee on Food Convener Shahid Imran made the remarks on Sunday while inaugurating a modern agricultural farm, highlighting the potential of 5G technology to transform agriculture, manufacturing and logistics.
He said 5G-powered Internet of Things (IoT) sensors could improve irrigation management, optimise crop production and increase agricultural yields, strengthening a sector vital to Pakistan’s economy.
He added that high-speed automation and smart supply chains could reduce operational costs and improve industrial competitiveness. Better connectivity would also create opportunities for freelancers and IT professionals through remote collaboration and international digital trade.
Shahid Imran said 5G services could help bridge the urban-rural divide by expanding access to telemedicine and remote learning.
However, he identified high infrastructure costs, foreign exchange constraints and extensive fibre-optic network requirements as major obstacles to nationwide 5G deployment.
He stressed that supportive regulatory and spectrum policies, targeted foreign investment and stronger public-private collaboration were essential to overcoming these challenges.
He said coordinated efforts were needed to develop a resilient, technology-driven economy and ensure that businesses and communities could benefit from next-generation connectivity.
