Google expands Career Certificate programme to 350,000 Pakistani students

Google has expanded its digital skills initiative in Pakistan by increasing the number of Google Career Certificates available to students to 350,000, as part of a broader effort to strengthen the country’s workforce with skills in artificial intelligence (AI) and other high-demand digital fields.\

The technology company announced that it has added 150,000 new scholarships this year, taking the total number of Google Career Certificates offered in Pakistan to 350,000 since the programme was launched.

The expanded initiative aims to equip students and professionals with industry-recognised digital skills to improve employability, support freelancing opportunities and encourage entrepreneurship.

AI and digital skills at the centre of the programme

Under the programme, participants across Pakistan will gain access to online courses in a range of fast-growing sectors, including artificial intelligence, data analytics, cybersecurity, project management, digital marketing and e-commerce.

Google said the certificates are designed to provide practical, job-ready skills that align with the needs of employers and the evolving digital economy.

The company has continued to expand its investment in Pakistan’s digital education ecosystem since 2022, with the latest initiative representing its largest commitment to date.

Partnership with local institutions

The programme is being implemented in collaboration with several Pakistani organisations, including Tech Valley, the Punjab Higher Education Commission, and the Higher Education Department.

Through these partnerships, Google aims to broaden access to internationally recognised training programmes and support the development of a skilled workforce capable of meeting the demands of an increasingly digital economy.

Government promotes AI adoption

Separately, Pakistan’s Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication has directed ministry officials to complete at least two Google Career Certificate courses.

The directive is intended to promote the effective adoption of artificial intelligence and other advanced digital technologies across the public sector while enhancing the digital capabilities of government employees.

The expanded Google Career Certificate programme reflects growing collaboration between the private sector and educational institutions to prepare Pakistan’s workforce for emerging technologies and the rapidly evolving global digital economy.
