Farhan Qureshi, Google’s Country Director for Pakistan, expressed his enthusiasm about the launch, highlighting its potential impact on fostering entrepreneurial talent within the country. The competition, set to be a cornerstone event in Pakistan’s tech calendar, will feature five distinct categories: AI & Generative AI, E-commerce & Connectivity, Fintech, Frontier Digital Technologies, and Sustainability & Environment. Startups competing in these categories will have the opportunity to present their groundbreaking ideas to a panel of experts, vying for a substantial Rs1 million cash prize in each category.
Umar Farooq, CEO of Tech Valley, emphasized the pivotal role of the competition in propelling Pakistan’s startup landscape forward. “This is a commitment from Google Cloud and Tech Valley to accelerate growth and create new entrepreneurial opportunities in Pakistan,” he affirmed.
The competition has garnered support from prominent entities within the startup community, including OPEN, Aspire, Bookme, and Tridorian, alongside Google Developer Groups and venture capital firms such as Indus Valley Capital, Fatima Gobi Ventures, and Katalyst Labs. This collaborative effort underscores a collective commitment to nurturing and promoting innovation within Pakistan’s technology sector.
The Grand Finals of the Startup Competition Pakistan 2024 are slated to take place in late July 2024 in Karachi, the country’s vibrant commercial hub.
