Ishaq Dar reiterates the government’s commitment to public welfare as both sides agree to continue consultations on energy pricing and relief for low-income households.
ISLAMABAD, November 3, 2026: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to prioritising public welfare and providing relief to ordinary citizens amid global economic challenges.
He stressed that sustained dialogue among political parties was essential to addressing the country’s economic challenges effectively.
Dar expressed these views during a meeting with a delegation of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), led by Liaquat Baloch, to discuss petroleum prices and possible relief measures in Pakistan, according to a Foreign Office press release issued on Tuesday.
The meeting was attended by the Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives, the Prime Minister’s Adviser on Inter-Provincial Coordination, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Bajwa, the Secretary Finance and the Special Secretary Petroleum.
Both sides held detailed discussions on practical measures to provide relief to the public, particularly low-income households facing the financial burden of petroleum prices and broader economic pressures.
Dar emphasised the importance of maintaining cross-party engagement to develop effective solutions to economic difficulties and ensure that public welfare remained a priority.
The government and Jamaat-e-Islami agreed to continue consultations over the coming days to develop a way forward on energy pricing and public relief.
The discussions come amid efforts to address the impact of global economic uncertainty and changing energy market conditions on domestic fuel prices and household budgets.
