Governor Sindh Advocates for Empowering Business Community

KARACHI, March 23, 2024 – Governor Sindh Kamran Khan Tessori emphasized the crucial role of collective efforts in reshaping the perception about the business community, stressing that Pakistan’s progress hinges on the prosperity of its entrepreneurs.

Speaking as the Chief Guest at an Iftar Dinner hosted by the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) in honor of Karachi-based diplomats, Governor Tessori articulated the need for granting the business community a special status in the national framework to ensure their due respect and recognition.

“It has always been my fervent desire, and I am earnestly striving to realize it, that the business community is accorded a distinguished position in Pakistan’s socio-economic fabric, enshrined in the country’s Bluebook. This would compel the ruling elite to wholeheartedly acknowledge and engage with the business community for consultations,” Governor Tessori asserted.

The event saw the participation of Consul Generals and Deputy Consuls from several friendly nations including the United Kingdom, Russia, China, Japan, Vietnam, Iran, Korea, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Oman, Qatar, Turkey, Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Kuwait, and Bangladesh. Chairman of the Businessmen Group Zubair Motiwala, along with other distinguished members of the business community, also graced the occasion.

Governor Tessori lauded the Karachi Chamber for its pivotal role and assured unwavering support to address the challenges faced by the business community. He underscored the significance of businesses as the cornerstone of Pakistan’s future, pledging prompt responses to alleviate their concerns.

Highlighting the current economic challenges, Governor Tessori called for a concerted effort involving all stakeholders to chart a path towards sustainable economic growth. He proposed an intensive consultation process involving stakeholders to devise solutions and create an enabling business environment.

Addressing the audience on behalf of the Diplomatic Corps, Consul General of Indonesia Dr. June Kuncoro Hadiningrat praised KCCI and the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) for their role in fostering bilateral trade and investment. He reaffirmed the diplomatic community’s commitment to supporting Pakistan’s economic endeavors.

Zubair Motiwala, Chairman of the Businessmen Group, painted a positive outlook on Pakistan’s economic trajectory, citing notable improvements in various sectors. He highlighted the surge in food exports and sesame seeds exports, projecting a substantial increase in overall exports.

Motiwala also commended Governor Tessori for his transformative initiatives, applauding his efforts to address societal issues and promote education and sports in Karachi.

President of KCCI Iftikhar Ahmed Sheikh echoed the sentiments of enhancing trade and investment relations with friendly nations, calling for sustained efforts from both the business community and the government.

In his closing remarks, Sheikh expressed KCCI’s commitment to fostering stronger ties with international partners, urging the diplomatic corps to facilitate business delegations and bolster trade relations.
