Rockstar’s upcoming open-world game will include diverse wildlife, rare creatures and activities involving protagonists Jason and Lucia.
GTA 6 will feature more than 170 animal species across Leonida, including rare, discoverable and Legendary creatures, according to Game Informer.
The upcoming title from Rockstar Games is set in Leonida, a fictional US state inspired by Florida. Its wildlife ecosystem will span urban and rural locations, as well as aquatic and wetland environments.
According to the latest Game Informer issue, the game will include more than 60 bird species and over 30 land mammals, alongside a variety of reptiles and fish. Examples mentioned include feral cats, monkeys, whales, turtles and jellyfish.
Rockstar vice president of dynamic art Michael Kane said the development team wanted to reflect Florida’s diverse animal ecosystem across Leonida’s different environments.
The wildlife will reportedly include creatures found in cities, rural areas, inland waters and the ocean, as well as wetland locations inspired by Florida’s swamps and Everglades.
Some animals will be placed into Rare, Discoverable and Legendary categories. Rockstar has not yet revealed which species will receive these classifications.
The game is also expected to feature detailed visual characteristics for its wildlife. Animals can display effects such as iridescence, bioluminescence and translucency, while different feather types and hair and fur systems will influence the appearance of coats and pelts.
Players will reportedly be able to study animals and visit a zoo, adding wildlife-focused activities beyond simply encountering creatures while exploring the open world.
The wider game world will also offer numerous recreational activities. Game Informer lists options including base jumping, billiards, gym sessions, kayaking, mini golf, scuba diving, street and off-road racing, air boating and jet skiing.
Protagonists Jason and Lucia will be able to participate in these activities when they are not carrying out criminal operations. Some activities will also contribute to developing their relationship.
The emphasis on wildlife continues an area that Rockstar explored extensively in Red Dead Redemption 2, which featured a large and detailed animal ecosystem.
Rockstar Games is currently scheduled to release GTA 6 on November 19, 2026.
