Manchester City defeated Ipswich Town 3-2 to extend their winning run, while Liverpool and Chelsea secured important Premier League victories and Fulham ended their winless streak.
Manchester City Maintain Winning Momentum
Manchester City continued their impressive Premier League campaign with a hard-fought 3-2 victory over Ipswich Town on Saturday. Erling Haaland scored twice to help the defending champions recover from their midweek European disappointment and maintain their perfect record in the league.
City entered the contest following a Champions League setback against Paris Saint-Germain but responded strongly to secure their seventh consecutive league victory and strengthen their position at the top of the standings.
Phil Foden initially put City ahead, but Daizen Maeda brought Ipswich back into the contest. Haaland restored the hosts’ advantage before the interval with a header from Mateo Kovacic’s delivery.
The Norwegian striker extended City’s lead in the 69th minute, powering past Abdoul Ouattara before finishing accurately into the corner. Although Zian Flemming converted a stoppage-time penalty to create late tension, City held on for all three points.
Off the pitch, uncertainty continues over the club’s appeal against a ruling concerning alleged breaches of 114 Premier League financial regulations. Manchester City have consistently denied wrongdoing.
Chelsea Beat Everton Despite Goalkeeper Injury
Chelsea earned a 2-0 away victory against Everton, with Pedro Neto scoring both goals. The result ended Everton’s unbeaten league run, although the match was overshadowed by a serious-looking head injury to goalkeeper Emi Martinez.
Neto opened the scoring just 43 seconds after the restart, finishing following Jorrel Hato’s cutback. He completed his brace in the 90th minute after capitalising on a loose ball.
Martinez suffered a head collision with Jarrad Branthwaite and was taken to hospital for precautionary examinations. Chelsea manager Xabi Alonso said the goalkeeper was conscious and undergoing medical tests.
The injury also allowed 21-year-old Mike Penders to make his Premier League debut. He helped Chelsea record their first league clean sheet in 23 matches.
Liverpool and Fulham Secure Crucial Wins
Liverpool came from behind to defeat Brentford 2-1 away from home. Keane Lewis-Potter gave the hosts the lead before Yehor Yarmolyuk received a straight red card shortly before halftime.
Victor Munoz equalised in the 62nd minute, while Alexander Isak scored the winner eight minutes later. Brentford subsequently finished with nine players following Vitaly Janelt’s second yellow card.
Meanwhile, Fulham secured their first league victory of the season with a 1-0 home win over Hull City. Alex Iwobi scored the decisive goal in the 33rd minute, lifting Fulham to 15th place.
The latest results strengthened Manchester City’s title position while keeping the competition for European places closely contested.
