Salma Hayek recently shared her admiration for Angelina Jolie at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) premiere of Without Blood, a war thriller directed and written by Jolie.
The Mexican actress plays a leading role in the film, marking another collaboration between the two Hollywood stars.
During the event, Hayek spoke candidly about her experience working under Jolie’s direction, sharing heartfelt remarks about their unique dynamic on set. According to People, the 58-year-old actress revealed how the tables turned in their relationship during the filming process.
“I was a little bit of a mother figure to her,” Hayek admitted. “But in this movie, I felt like she was my motherly figure because she would come to the set and run it like a family.”
Hayek, who is known for her roles in films like Grown Ups and Frida, expressed surprise at Jolie’s warmth and generosity as a director. “Even though we are very close, I was surprised by how kind and supportive she was with the actors. It was really something special,” she added.
The two actresses have worked together before, most notably in Marvel’s 2021 superhero film Eternals, where they shared the screen. Their strong off-screen bond has clearly deepened through their latest project, with Hayek taking on a central role in Without Blood.
Jolie is no stranger to the director’s chair, having previously helmed acclaimed films like In the Land of Blood and Honey (2011), Unbroken (2014), By the Sea (2015), and First They Killed My Father (2017). Her latest effort, Without Blood, showcases her continued dedication to telling powerful, emotional stories.
Released worldwide on September 8, Without Blood also stars Demián Bichir and Juan Minujín, further adding to the anticipation surrounding the film. As the movie makes its way to audiences, Hayek’s heartfelt words are a testament to Jolie’s ever-evolving skills as a director and storyteller.
