Honor’s flagship Robot Phone combines a 4D gimbal camera, AI-powered tracking and a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset.
Honor has officially launched its highly anticipated Robot Phone in China, revealing a flagship smartphone built around an unusual feature: a mechanically stabilised gimbal camera integrated into the rear of the device.
The phone was first teased during the unveiling of Honor’s Magic8 series in October last year and was later showcased in prototype form at CES. The company has now confirmed its full specifications, pricing and availability.
The Honor Robot Phone features what Honor describes as the industry’s smallest 4D gimbal system. The company says the mechanism required more than 60 manufacturing processes and includes over 100 precision components, while the technology is supported by more than 100 patents.
The titanium gimbal motor weighs just 2.6 grams and measures 6mm in thickness, allowing the entire mechanism to fit inside the phone’s 9.6mm body. Despite the slim profile, the device weighs 248 grams.
200MP gimbal camera
The centrepiece of the Robot Phone is its 200MP gimbal camera, which uses a 1/1.28-inch sensor with an f/1.6 aperture. It supports 4K video recording and is paired with Honor’s H1 imaging chip.
Users can control certain gimbal functions through voice commands, including asking the camera to turn or focus on a particular subject. AI-powered subject tracking also enables real-time auto-framing for vlogging, livestreaming and video calls.
The gimbal system also works with Honor’s Yoyo AI assistant, allowing the camera mechanism to interact with its surroundings. Honor says it can display more than 100 facial expressions, including nodding and peeking, and can even dance to music.
Cinema-focused camera features
The Robot Phone is also the first device launched under Honor’s partnership with German cinema equipment maker Arri. It supports native Log-C3 video encoding, on-device LUT colour grading and a dedicated cinema mode designed to replicate the visual characteristics of Arri cinema cameras.
The camera setup also includes a 200MP periscope telephoto camera with a 1/1.4-inch sensor and 2.7x optical zoom, alongside a 50MP ultrawide camera that doubles as a macro shooter.
Flagship specifications
The phone has a 6.3-inch LTPO OLED display with a 2,640 x 1,216-pixel resolution and a variable 1-120Hz refresh rate. Peak local brightness reaches 6,800 nits, while an anti-reflective coating is designed to reduce glare.
Power comes from Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 chipset, paired with up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. The device runs MagicOS 10 based on Android 16.
A 7,060mAh silicon-carbon battery powers the phone, with support for 120W wired and 50W wireless charging.
The Honor Robot Phone will be offered in Silver and Gray. The 12GB RAM and 512GB storage version costs CNY 9,999 ($1,482), while the 16GB/1TB model is priced at CNY 12,999 ($1,927).
Open sales in China will begin on August 18, while Honor has yet to confirm availability in other markets.
