Huawei Mate XT 2 launches with redesigned tri-fold display

Huawei’s latest tri-fold smartphone features a Kirin 9050 Pro chip, privacy display and 5,600mAh battery

Huawei has unveiled the Mate XT 2 Ultimate Design in China, introducing a redesigned tri-fold smartphone with an inward-folding hinge, a hardware privacy display and the new Kirin 9050 Pro chipset.

The device runs HarmonyOS 7 and features a 6.5-inch OLED LTPO cover display with Full-HD+ resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate and peak brightness of 6,500 nits.

When unfolded, the Mate XT 2 Ultimate Design offers a 10.2-inch OLED LTPO display with a 90Hz refresh rate, 3K resolution and a 12.8:9 aspect ratio. The inner screen also incorporates a hardware privacy feature designed to limit viewing angles, similar to the technology used on Samsung’s Galaxy S26 Ultra.

Powering the device is Huawei’s new Kirin 9050 Pro chipset, which the company claims is more than 42% faster than the processor used in the Mate XTs. Huawei has also upgraded the chip’s neural processing unit (NPU) and graphics processing unit (GPU).

The rear camera system has been repositioned on the centre panel, unlike previous Mate XT models. It comprises a 50MP RYYB LOFIC main camera with a 1/1.28-inch sensor, a 50MP RYYB periscope telephoto camera offering 3.5x optical zoom and a 40MP RYYB ultrawide camera. The phone also includes a third-generation Red Maple colour sensor.

For selfies, Huawei has fitted 8MP cameras on both the cover and inner displays.

The Mate XT 2 packs a 5,600mAh battery supporting 66W wired and 50W wireless charging. Its new G-shaped hinge enables an unfolded thickness of just 3.5mm, while the device measures 12.3mm when folded and weighs 299g.

The phone carries IP58 and IP59 ratings, while its cover display uses basalt glass for improved drop and scratch resistance. Other features include a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, touch-sensitive buttons capable of recording ECG readings and support for the M-Pen 3 stylus.

Connectivity includes 5G, dual 4G, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0 LE, GPS, satellite communication, NFC and USB 3.1 Type-C.

Available in Black, Purple and White, the phone supports up to 16GB RAM and 2TB storage. Prices start at CNY 19,999 ($2,980) for the 16GB/256GB model and reach CNY 29,999 ($4,470) for the 16GB/2TB special edition with a stylus.
