Huawei nova 16s series goes global with 7,000mAh batteries, advanced cameras

Huawei has expanded its latest nova lineup internationally with the nova 16s and nova 16s Pro, bringing large batteries, high-resolution RYYB cameras and premium OLED displays to global markets.

Huawei has announced the global versions of its nova 16 series, introducing the Huawei nova 16s and nova 16s Pro following their debut in China earlier this year. As with several of the company’s recent international launches, Huawei has added the “s” suffix to distinguish the global models.

The Huawei nova 16s Pro is the more advanced model of the pair and retains the series’ headline camera hardware. It features a 200MP RYYB primary camera with an f/1.8 aperture and optical image stabilisation (OIS). The main sensor is supported by a multi-spectral sensor designed to improve colour accuracy in different shooting conditions.

The rear camera setup also includes a 50MP RYYB 3.7x periscope telephoto camera with OIS and a 50MP RYYB ultra-wide camera offering a 118-degree field of view and a 2.5cm macro mode. A 50MP front-facing camera handles selfies and video calls.

Bright LTPO OLED display and 7,000mAh battery

The nova 16s Pro features a 6.84-inch LTPO OLED display with an adaptive 1-120Hz refresh rate. Huawei claims peak brightness of up to 6,000 nits under specific testing conditions, while high-frequency 2,160Hz PWM dimming is included to control brightness.

Powering the phone is a substantial 7,000mAh battery, paired with 100W Huawei SuperCharge Turbo support. Despite its large battery, the device measures just 7.1mm thick and weighs 218g.

Huawei has used an aerospace-grade aluminium alloy frame, while Kunlun Glass with a nano-crystal coating protects the front. The company says the construction provides significantly improved drop resistance compared with the previous nova 15 generation.

The nova 16s Pro will be available in Isle Blue, Breathing Crystal, Starry Black and Sky White, with a wave-inspired design aimed at giving the phone a distinctive appearance.

Huawei nova 16s specifications

The standard Huawei nova 16s comes with a smaller 6.68-inch display and a slimmer 7.3mm body. It retains the same 7,000mAh battery and 100W charging capability as the Pro model.

Its camera system includes a 50MP main camera and a 50MP RYYB 3.3x periscope telephoto camera with OIS. Storage starts at 256GB, with a 512GB option also available.

Both smartphones will ship with EMUI 16.0 for international markets rather than HarmonyOS. The nova 16s Pro is powered by the Kirin 9010S, while the standard nova 16s uses the Kirin 8020 chipset.

Huawei is also bringing several AI-powered photography tools to the devices, including features for improving composition, removing unwanted objects, reducing glare and selecting better facial expressions.

Huawei has yet to announce the global pricing and availability of the nova 16s and nova 16s Pro. Further details are expected ahead of their wider market rollout.
