Pakistan Customs detains three oil tankers carrying petroleum products worth an estimated Rs40 million after detecting tracking and documentation discrepancies.

Pakistan Customs has seized approximately 20,000 litres of petrol and high-speed diesel (HSD) during three anti-smuggling operations conducted by the Collectorate of Customs Enforcement Hyderabad.

The operations targeted suspicious movements of petroleum, oil and lubricants (POL) products, with officials using the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) Tracking App to monitor consignments and verify transportation records.

According to the details shared by Customs Enforcement Hyderabad, anti-smuggling teams detained three oil tankers after identifying discrepancies in their tracking records, transit movements and accompanying documentation.

The tankers’ tracking records were reportedly unavailable on the OGRA portal. Officials also identified unexplained transit delays, broken or apparently tampered seals, and inconsistencies between the consignees listed on delivery invoices and the actual locations where the petroleum products were being offloaded.

The approximate value of the cases has been assessed at Rs40 million.

OGRA tracking system strengthens surveillance

Pakistan Customs is increasingly using digital monitoring tools to identify suspicious transportation patterns, verify the movement of petroleum consignments and support intelligence-led enforcement operations.

The OGRA Tracking App enables officials to examine transportation records and identify irregularities that may warrant further investigation. The latest operations highlight the role of digital tracking in detecting potential violations within petroleum supply chains.

The detained tankers and their consignments remain subject to verification and further legal proceedings in accordance with the law. The identified discrepancies will require examination by the relevant authorities before the cases reach their final legal outcome.

Pakistan Customs has reaffirmed its commitment to curbing smuggling, protecting legitimate supply chains and enforcing applicable laws governing the transportation and distribution of petroleum products.
