Hyundai Recalls Santa Fe and Ioniq 6 Over Front Seatbelt Safety Defect

Nearly 12,000 Hyundai vehicles recalled after a manufacturing issue raises concerns about front seatbelt performance and occupant safety.

Hyundai has announced a recall of thousands of Santa Fe SUVs and Ioniq 6 electric sedans after identifying a manufacturing defect that could affect the proper operation of front seatbelts. The recall covers nearly 12,000 vehicles and aims to address a potential safety risk for drivers and passengers.

According to the company, the issue involves the anchorage tensioner stopper used in the seatbelts of the front seating positions.

Due to a manufacturing fault, the component may gradually lose tension over time. If this happens, the seatbelt anchorage could become dislodged, preventing the restraint system from functioning as designed during an accident.

The automaker warned that a malfunctioning seatbelt may not provide the intended level of protection in the event of a collision. Reduced effectiveness of the restraint system could increase the likelihood of serious injuries for vehicle occupants and, in extreme cases, may contribute to a higher risk of fatalities.

The recall affects a total of 11,928 vehicles, including current-generation Hyundai Santa Fe SUVs and Hyundai Ioniq 6 electric sedans manufactured between 2022 and 2026. The affected models were sold across various markets and are now being called back for inspection and repairs.

Vehicle owners are being urged to check whether their cars are included in the recall by reviewing the official Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) list released by Hyundai. The company has also published a detailed recall notice outlining the nature of the defect and the corrective measures that will be taken.

Hyundai said customers with affected vehicles should contact an authorized Hyundai dealership to arrange a service appointment. Technicians will inspect and rectify the issue at no cost to owners, ensuring the seatbelt system meets safety standards.

The latest Hyundai Santa Fe and Ioniq 6 recall highlights the importance of vehicle safety monitoring and timely corrective actions. Automakers regularly issue recalls to address defects that may compromise occupant protection, helping to maintain safety and reliability on the road.
