ICAP will introduce Safe Exam Browser for computer-based examinations, restrict remote-proctored exams to candidates outside Pakistan, and provide mobile phone deposit facilities at examination centres.
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan (ICAP) has announced important changes for candidates appearing in the Winter 2026 examinations. In an announcement dated October 20, 2026, the institute outlined three key measures covering examination security, remote-proctored assessments, and mobile phone handling at examination centres.
The new instructions will take effect from the Winter 2026 examination session. Candidates have been advised to review the updated guidelines and comply with the requirements to avoid difficulties during their examinations.
1. Safe Exam Browser for Computer-Based Examinations
ICAP will introduce the Safe Exam Browser (SEB) for all computer-based examinations beginning with the Winter 2026 session. The software is intended to provide a secure examination environment for candidates taking assessments on computers.
According to the announcement, detailed installation instructions for the Safe Exam Browser will be provided by October 26, 2026. This will give candidates time to install the software and prepare their devices before their examinations.
ICAP will also make a practice test available in the secured area of its website. Candidates can use this facility to familiarise themselves with the browser and understand how it works before appearing in their actual examinations.
2. Remote-Proctored Examinations for Overseas Candidates
ICAP has clarified that remote-proctored examinations will remain available only to candidates appearing from outside Pakistan until the Winter 2026 examination session.
The institute will review whether this facility should continue beyond the Winter 2026 examinations. Candidates planning to use remote-proctored assessments should therefore follow the official instructions and monitor future announcements regarding the availability of this option.
3. Mobile Phone Deposit Facility at Examination Centres
To facilitate candidates, examination centres will provide controlled, token-based mobile phone deposit facilities. This arrangement will allow candidates to deposit their phones at designated counters before entering examination halls.
However, ICAP has clearly stated that mobile phones will not be permitted inside examination halls. Candidates must switch off their phones before depositing them. The institute has also indicated that a reasonable fee may be charged for using the facility.
Important Instructions for Candidates
ICAP has urged all candidates to take note of these changes and follow the relevant examination instructions. Candidates should prepare for the Safe Exam Browser requirements in advance and ensure compliance with mobile phone restrictions.
Following these guidelines will help candidates avoid last-minute complications during the Winter 2026 examinations.
