ICC Delegation Likely to Visit Pakistan for Champions Trophy 2025

KARACHI: An International Cricket Council (ICC) delegation is expected to visit Pakistan amidst uncertainty surrounding the upcoming Men’s Champions Trophy 2025, which is scheduled to be held next year, Geo Super reported on Thursday.

The ICC delegation may arrive in the country early next week, although the exact date has not yet been confirmed, according to a source close to the cricketing body.

It was further revealed that the ICC has not yet reached out to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) regarding the delegation’s visit.

In addition, a meeting is expected to take place today between the ICC and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), sources added.

The news comes a day after reports indicated that the much-anticipated schedule for the eight-team tournament is facing further delays.

Sources revealed that the PCB is adamantly opposed to the proposed hybrid model for the tournament and has threatened to boycott all of India’s matches if the BCCI refuses to send its national team to Pakistan, which has complicated the announcement of the schedule.

Moreover, broadcasters, who had been assured a schedule featuring Pakistan-India matchups—typically the most lucrative and viewed fixtures—have refused to accept a schedule that excludes these high-profile games. They have even warned of potential legal action if the ICC does not meet their demands.

Sources noted that the schedule could be announced within a few days if all stakeholders demonstrate flexibility. However, much will depend on resolving the ongoing political tensions between Pakistan and India, which are complicating the scheduling process.

The stakeholders are keen to reach a consensus on holding the event, they added.

Meanwhile, the ICC is working to find a resolution before BCCI Secretary Jay Shah assumes the role of ICC Chairman on December 1. The outcome of these discussions will be crucial for finalizing the event logistics and ensuring a smooth Champions Trophy 2025.
