Imad and Amir Announce Retirement from International Cricket

Pakistan cricket bid farewell to two of its celebrated players as all-rounder Imad Wasim and left-arm fast bowler Mohammad Amir announced their retirements from international cricket. Both players, who last featured in Pakistan’s squad during the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 held in the USA and West Indies, leave behind illustrious careers that spanned over a decade.

Imad Wasim, 35, made his international debut in May 2015 against Zimbabwe in Lahore. Known for his left-arm spin and dependable batting, Imad played 55 ODIs and 75 T20Is, accumulating 1,540 runs and claiming 117 wickets across formats. Imad’s performances often provided stability to Pakistan’s middle order and key breakthroughs with the ball. He was a pivotal member of Pakistan’s victorious campaign in the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy, contributing both with bat and ball.

Mohammad Amir, 32, from Gujjar Khan, began his international career in June 2009. With 271 wickets to his name across 36 Tests, 61 ODIs, and 62 T20Is, Amir was a cornerstone of Pakistan’s bowling attack for many years. Renowned for his lethal pace and ability to swing the ball both ways, Amir was instrumental in Pakistan’s triumph at the 2009 ICC T20 World Cup and played a match-winning role in the 2017 ICC Champions Trophy final against India.

Farewell Messages

Reflecting on his career, Imad said, “Representing my country has been the fulfillment of a lifelong dream. I am grateful to the PCB and fans for their unwavering support throughout my journey. I look forward to supporting Pakistan cricket as a fan.”

Amir, on his part, remarked, “It has been an honour to serve Pakistan cricket. This decision was not easy, but I feel the time is right for younger talent to step in. I am grateful to the PCB and our passionate fans who have stood by me through every high and low.”

PCB Acknowledgment

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chief Operating Officer Sumair Ahmad Syed expressed gratitude, stating, “On behalf of the PCB, I thank Amir and Imad for their valuable contributions. Their dedication and performances have enriched Pakistan cricket. We wish them success in their future endeavors.”
