Imad Wasim Ends Retirement, Eyes T20 World Cup Comeback

Imad Wasim, the versatile Pakistani cricketer, has announced his comeback from retirement just in time for the upcoming T20 World Cup.

Wasim, who bid adieu to international cricket back in November 2023, revealed his change of heart through social media, citing his stellar performance in the recent Pakistan Super League (PSL) season as the driving force behind his decision.

During the PSL, representing the triumphant Islamabad United under the leadership of Shadab Khan, Wasim’s exceptional all-round display earned him the Player of the Match title in the final clash against Multan Sultans.

His remarkable figures of 5/23 with the ball and a crucial unbeaten 19 runs in a high-pressure chase showcased his invaluable contribution to the team’s victory.

With a commendable consistency in both batting and bowling throughout the tournament, Wasim compiled 126 runs at an average of 21 and an impressive strike rate of 128.57, along with bagging 12 wickets across 12 matches.

Expressing his eagerness to serve his nation once again, Wasim declared his availability for selection in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, following discussions with PCB officials.

Grateful for the opportunity, he emphasized his commitment to giving his best for Pakistan cricket, affirming that his country’s pride remains his top priority.

The seasoned cricketer, aged 35, boasts a rich history of representing Pakistan across various formats, accumulating 1472 runs and claiming 109 wickets in 121 matches.

Although his journey began with a victory in the U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup back in 2006, Wasim patiently waited until 2015 to make his senior debut.

His last appearance for Pakistan dates back to April 2023 during the T20I series against New Zealand on home soil. With ample time for preparation leading up to the T20 World Cup commencing on 1st June, Pakistan’s cricket team is gearing up with a five-match series against New Zealand followed by a series of four T20Is in England slated for late May.

With Imad Wasim’s return, Pakistan’s T20 squad gains valuable experience and depth, enhancing their prospects for a successful campaign in the highly anticipated global event.
