Indus Motor Announces Three-Day Shutdown: PSX Notice

Karachi, November 26, 2024 – Indus Motor Company Limited announced on Tuesday that it will temporarily shut down its operations for three days due to a shortage of raw materials.

In a notice to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), the company explained that ongoing supply chain disruptions have led to difficulties in sourcing the necessary raw materials and components, affecting its vehicle production capacity.

“As a result, the company is facing challenges in acquiring the required parts, which has impacted its ability to meet production targets,” said Indus Motor in the notice.

Given these circumstances, the company has decided to halt operations at its production facility from November 27, 2024, to November 29, 2024.

Indus Motor assured its stakeholders that it is taking necessary measures to address the issue and minimize any long-term impact on its operations. The company is working closely with suppliers to resolve the raw material shortages and resume production as soon as possible.

About Indus Motor Company Limited:

Indus Motor Company Limited is a joint venture between House of Habib of Pakistan, Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC), and Toyota Tsusho Corporation (TTC) of Japan. Founded in 1989, the company manufactures and markets Toyota vehicles in Pakistan, including various models such as the Corolla and Yaris in the passenger car segment, Hilux in light commercial vehicles, and Fortuner and Corolla Cross in the SUV segment.

The company’s manufacturing facility and offices are located on a 109.5-acre site in Port Qasim, Karachi. Indus Motor delivers its products nationwide through a network of 57 authorized 3S dealerships. Over its 34-year history, the company has sold over 1.1 million CKD/CBU vehicles and has experienced significant growth. From an initial production of 20 vehicles per day in 1993, its daily production capacity has grown to 288 units (with overtime) on a double-shift basis. This growth has been supported by the development of human resources and the implementation of Toyota’s “Toyota Way” philosophy of quality and lean manufacturing.

The current suspension of production highlights the ongoing challenges faced by the automotive industry due to supply chain disruptions. However, with the company’s proven track record of innovation and resilience, it is expected that operations will resume smoothly once the material shortages are resolved.
