Indus Motors shifts burden of dollar hike on customers

Indus Motor Company (IMC) has announced to increase the price of Toyota cars on account of significant fall in Pakistani Rupee (PKR).

The company said that increased economic uncertainty and extremely volatile situation in Pakistan has forced the company shift the burden on customers.

The local currency crashed against the dollar on Friday to make new low at PKR 262.60 at closing interbank foreign exchange market.

The local currency devalued by PKR 31.71 or 14 per cent against the dollar during past two days.

Currency experts said that the IMF talks resumption and sharp decline in the foreign exchange reserves kept the rupee under pressure.

The company in a press release stated: as you are aware, economic uncertainties and extreme volatile situation of PKR against USD has adversely impacted the cost of manufacturing for IMC.

Thus, this situation has made it extremely difficult for IMC to hold the current retail selling prices, and therefore, we are compelled to pass on some impact to the market.
