Apple’s upcoming iOS 27 update introduces a significant improvement to the iPhone’s Camera Control feature by integrating Siri AI directly into the Camera app, replacing the standalone Visual Intelligence experience.
The change aims to simplify how users interact with Camera Control, a dedicated camera button available on newer iPhone models. Under previous software versions, including iOS 18 and iOS 26, a long press on Camera Control launched Visual Intelligence, an Apple Intelligence-powered feature that used the device’s camera to identify objects, locations and other information in real time.
While the feature expanded the capabilities of Camera Control, some users found it disruptive. A slightly longer press than intended could trigger Visual Intelligence instead of launching the Camera app, interrupting attempts to quickly capture a photo.
With iOS 27, Apple has redesigned the experience by transforming Visual Intelligence into a dedicated Siri camera mode within the Camera app. Rather than opening a separate interface, users remain inside the Camera application and can easily switch between Siri mode and traditional photo modes with a simple swipe.
The update eliminates the need to exit a separate Visual Intelligence interface before returning to photography. Users who accidentally activate Siri mode can quickly move back to standard photo capture without leaving the Camera app.
The redesign also aligns with Apple’s broader effort to make Camera Control more focused on photography. In iOS 26, the company had already begun simplifying the feature by emphasizing its role as a dedicated camera launcher rather than a multifunctional shortcut button.
Industry observers view the latest adjustment as part of Apple’s strategy to integrate artificial intelligence more naturally into existing applications instead of presenting AI tools as separate experiences. By embedding Siri AI directly within the Camera app, Apple aims to make AI-assisted visual searches and actions feel like an extension of photography rather than an interruption.
The update could prove particularly useful for users who want to identify objects or gather information through their camera before deciding whether to capture a photo.
iOS 27 is currently available in developer beta, with Siri mode forming part of Apple’s broader Siri AI enhancements expected to reach eligible iPhone models later this year.
