iPhone 18 Pro May Feature Different Battery Sizes in US and China Models

IT & Telecom

Apple is rumored to continue its region-specific battery strategy with the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro, offering different battery capacities for customers in the United States and China. The approach follows a similar pattern introduced with the iPhone 17 Pro series and reflects differences in hardware design between the two markets.

According to reports from well-known tipster Digital Chat Station, the Chinese version of the iPhone 18 Pro is expected to feature a 4,056mAh battery. Meanwhile, the US model could come equipped with a larger 4,288mAh battery, providing users with slightly improved battery life.

Why Battery Sizes Differ Between Regions

The difference in battery capacity is linked to Apple’s decision to offer eSIM-only devices in the United States while retaining a physical SIM card slot for models sold in China.

Removing the SIM tray frees up additional internal space inside the device. Apple has reportedly used this extra room to install a larger battery in US variants. This design choice allows the company to maximize battery capacity without increasing the size of the smartphone.

The same strategy was observed in the iPhone 17 Pro lineup. Chinese models were equipped with a 3,988mAh battery, while US versions featured a larger 4,252mAh unit due to the absence of a physical SIM card slot.

iPhone 18 Pro Expected to Deliver Major Upgrades

Beyond battery improvements, the iPhone 18 Pro is expected to introduce several notable hardware enhancements. Industry reports suggest that Apple will power the device with its next-generation A20 Pro chipset, which is likely to deliver improved performance, efficiency, and AI capabilities.

The smartphone is also rumored to feature a variable-aperture main rear camera, allowing users to adjust the amount of light entering the lens for better photography in different conditions.

Smaller Dynamic Island and New Colors Rumored

Apple may also reduce the size of the Dynamic Island on the iPhone 18 Pro, offering a cleaner display experience. In addition, the company is expected to introduce new color options to refresh the premium lineup.

The iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are widely expected to make their official debut in September, continuing Apple’s annual flagship smartphone launch cycle. More details about specifications and pricing are likely to emerge closer to the launch date.
