iPhone 18 Pro may get major A20 Pro performance and efficiency boost

Apple’s rumoured A20 Pro chip could deliver 18% higher performance and 30% lower power consumption, but rising production costs may push the iPhone 18 Pro price higher.

Apple’s upcoming iPhone 18 Pro series could deliver a significant jump in performance and power efficiency, with a new leak pointing to major improvements from the rumoured A20 Pro chipset.

According to the reported details, the A20 Pro could be around 18% faster than the A19 Pro while consuming up to 30% less power. The chipset is also expected to be manufactured using TSMC’s advanced 2nm process with Gate-All-Around (GAA) transistor technology.

The move to a smaller manufacturing process could allow Apple to improve performance without proportionally increasing power consumption. For iPhone 18 Pro users, this could translate into better overall responsiveness and potentially longer battery life.

A20 Pro could increase Apple’s costs

The reported improvements may, however, come at a price for Apple. The A20 Pro is expected to be more expensive to manufacture than the A19 Pro, adding to broader concerns about rising component costs.

Previous reports have suggested that the bill of materials for the iPhone 18 Pro could rise by as much as 40%. Apple could also face increased memory costs amid an ongoing shortage of memory components.

These higher production costs could eventually be passed on to consumers. The iPhone 18 Pro is reportedly expected to start at around $1,399, which would represent a notable increase compared with previous Pro models.

Apple has yet to officially confirm the A20 Pro’s specifications, its manufacturing process or the pricing of the iPhone 18 Pro lineup.

If the latest reports prove accurate, the A20 Pro could make the iPhone 18 Pro one of Apple’s most significant chipset upgrades in recent years, combining higher performance with substantially improved power efficiency. However, consumers may have to pay considerably more to benefit from those upgrades.
