Islamabad Extends Vehicle Tax Payment Deadline to January 15

Islamabad, January 2, 2025 – The Islamabad Excise and Taxation Department has extended the deadline for vehicle token tax payments, giving vehicle owners a 15-day grace period.

The new deadline is now set for January 15, 2025, providing additional time to clear dues and avoid potential legal penalties. The department’s move aims to ease the burden on vehicle owners during the busy start to the year.

Director of Excise, Bilal Azam, announced that the department has implemented strict measures against defaulters. Those who fail to pay their token taxes on time may face severe consequences, including the cancellation of their vehicle registrations. Additionally, defaulters could be penalized up to 200% of the unpaid amount. The department emphasized that these steps are necessary to ensure compliance and encourage timely payments.

To assist citizens, the excise counters at various locations in Islamabad will remain open until 8:00 p.m. every day. This extended time frame ensures vehicle owners have ample opportunity to make payments and avoid penalties. Azam further stated that those who do not comply by the new deadline will face the cancellation of their vehicle registrations, a process that could result in significant inconvenience for the vehicle owners.

In a bid to make the payment process more convenient, the Islamabad Excise and Taxation Department also introduced a special initiative on Thursday. Vehicular-related services were made available at Trail 3 parking lot between 2:00 and 4:00 p.m., allowing residents of Islamabad to take care of token tax, registration, and transfer processes directly on-site. The excise staff was present to ensure a seamless and efficient experience for all visitors.

The initiative also marks the launch of the ICT Doorstep Service, designed to further streamline administrative processes for citizens. This service allows Islamabad residents to access various essential services, including Domicile Certificates, Birth Certificates, Power of Attorney documents, International Driving Permits, Fuel Permits (Domestic/Commercial), and Motor Vehicle Registrations, all in one convenient location.

This initiative reflects the Islamabad administration’s ongoing efforts to provide citizens with efficient and accessible public services, making administrative procedures simpler and more convenient.
