Islamabad Gears Up for Freezing Morning Temperatures

Islamabad, December 27, 2024 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has predicted that Islamabad and its surrounding areas will experience cold weather on Saturday, December 28, 2024, with very cold conditions during the morning and night hours. Frost is also expected at isolated places in the region during the early hours.

For Friday night, December 27, 2024, the PMD forecasts cold and cloudy weather with a possibility of drizzle in Islamabad and nearby areas. Residents are advised to brace for a chilly evening as a westerly wave impacts the northeastern parts of the country.

Friday’s Weather

Throughout Friday, most parts of the country experienced mainly cold and dry weather, with very cold conditions in hilly areas during nighttime. Light rain or snow was reported at isolated locations in regions such as Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan, northeast Punjab, upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galliyat, and adjacent areas. Smog and moderate to dense fog persisted in plain regions of Punjab and upper/central Sindh, affecting visibility in these areas.

Saturday’s Weather Forecast

For Saturday, Islamabad is expected to witness mainly cold and dry weather during the day, turning very cold during morning and night hours. Frost formation is likely in Islamabad and upper parts of the country during the early hours. Smog and fog, ranging from moderate to dense in patches, are expected to persist in plain areas of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and upper/central Sindh during the morning and night hours.

In the past 24 hours, Islamabad and most parts of the country experienced cold and dry weather, with very cold conditions in hilly areas. Rain was recorded in northeast Punjab and Kashmir. Smog and fog in patches continued to affect the plain areas of Punjab and upper Sindh. Rainfall in Punjab included Lahore Airport (9 mm), Lahore City (7 mm), and Sialkot City (9 mm). Rainfall was also observed in Kashmir, with Kotli and Rawalakot receiving 2 mm each.

Lowest Recorded Temperatures

Today’s lowest minimum temperatures were recorded in Skardu (-13°C), Leh (-12°C), and Gupis (-9°C). Other notable readings include Astore, Gilgit, and Ziarat (-8°C), Quetta and Kalat (-7°C), and Hunza, Bagrote, and Kalam (-6°C).
