Islamabad, April 18, 2025 – Residents of Islamabad and its adjacent areas are advised to prepare for a spell of inclement weather as the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a forecast of significant weather activity for Saturday, April 19, 2025.
The PMD anticipates a considerable thundershower accompanied by the possibility of hailstorms across the capital and its surroundings.
According to the PMD’s latest weather bulletin, the forecast for Islamabad and its neighboring regions indicates partly cloudy conditions that will likely culminate in a rain windstorm and a substantial thundershower, with the added risk of hailstorms and potentially heavy rainfall in certain areas. This advisory underscores the need for citizens to take necessary precautions to safeguard themselves and their property against the anticipated severe weather.
The PMD’s outlook extends beyond Islamabad, predicting partly cloudy skies for the majority of districts within the Punjab province. Furthermore, several regions, including Kashmir, Murree, Galliyat, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mianwali, Layyah, Hafizabad, Gujranwala, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujarat, Sialkot, Narowal, Khushab, Jhang, Lahore, Kasur, Bhakkar, Faisalabad, and Sargodha, are expected to experience rain windstorms and thundershower activity, with isolated instances of hailstorms also possible. The southern parts of Punjab may also witness windstorms or gusty winds accompanied by rain and thunderstorms in isolated locations.
The PMD has attributed this impending weather system to a westerly wave currently influencing the upper and central parts of the country. This weather pattern is expected to persist until April 20th, suggesting a period of potential weather fluctuations across these regions.
Looking ahead to Friday night, the PMD forecasts similar conditions for Islamabad and its surroundings, with partly cloudy skies giving way to rain windstorms and thunderstorms, again with the possibility of hailstorms and heavy rainfall. While most parts of the Punjab province are expected to experience hot weather during the daytime, the likelihood of rain windstorms and isolated hailstorms remains for the aforementioned northern and central districts. Additionally, isolated areas within Bahawalpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, Multan, and their vicinities are also bracing for windstorms or gusty winds accompanied by rain and thunderstorms. The consistent forecast of a significant thundershower by the PMD necessitates that residents stay informed and take appropriate safety measures.
