Jacob Elordi gives cryptic response to James Bond casting rumours

The The Dog Stars actor avoided confirming whether he has auditioned to become the next 007, telling reporters he was “here on holiday” at the film’s London premiere.

Jacob Elordi has once again found himself at the centre of James Bond casting speculation, but the Australian actor offered no clear answer when questioned about his potential involvement in the race to replace Daniel Craig as the iconic 007.

Elordi attended the London world premiere of Ridley Scott’s The Dog Stars at the Odeon Luxe Leicester Square on August 20, joining co-stars Josh Brolin, Margaret Qualley and Guy Pearce. Scott was also present for the premiere.

With Elordi among the actors previously linked to the next Bond film, Variety asked him whether he had been auditioning for the coveted role.

The actor responded with a smile: “I’m here on holiday.”

His playful response neither confirmed nor denied whether he has participated in the Bond audition process, leaving the speculation surrounding his potential casting unresolved.

Jacob Elordi remains linked to James Bond role

Rumours surrounding the next 007 have intensified since Amazon MGM Studios began searching for Daniel Craig’s successor. Auditions have reportedly started, with casting director Nina Gold involved in the process.

Elordi has been mentioned as a potential contender for some time. In 2025, Variety reported that Amazon’s wishlist included the Australian actor alongside Tom Holland and Harris Dickinson, as the studio reportedly considered younger performers for the iconic role.

While nothing has been officially confirmed, Elordi’s rising profile has made him a prominent name in the ongoing conversation.

The actor has built an increasingly impressive filmography through projects including Euphoria, Saltburn, Priscilla, Frankenstein and Wuthering Heights. His performance in Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein also earned him an Oscar nomination earlier this year.

Elordi praises Ridley Scott

At the London premiere, Elordi was primarily focused on The Dog Stars and his experience working with legendary filmmaker Ridley Scott.

Speaking to Variety, the actor described Scott as “the king of movies” and said working with him was “such a treat” and “a dream come true”.

“I don’t think I’ll ever have an experience like that,” Elordi said, praising Scott as “one of a kind” and “a pioneer of modern cinema”.

The Dog Stars is based on Peter Heller’s 2012 novel and takes place after a devastating flu pandemic has wiped out much of humanity.

Elordi plays a former civilian pilot attempting to survive in the post-apocalyptic world alongside a hardened former Marine, portrayed by Brolin. The pair must navigate dangerous threats while trying to survive in a dramatically transformed society.

The Dog Stars faced a casting change

The film also underwent a significant casting change before production. Scott had initially considered Paul Mescal for the central role, but Mescal eventually departed because of scheduling conflicts related to the Beatles biopics.

Elordi subsequently joined the project.

Brolin has also spoken about the intensity of Scott’s filmmaking approach. In an interview with Empire, the actor revealed that he nearly walked away from the production after his first day, describing the experience as frightening before ultimately deciding to stay.

The Dog Stars is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on August 28.

Meanwhile, Elordi’s joking response has done little to quiet speculation about his Bond prospects. For now, whether the actor has actually entered the race to become the next 007 remains a mystery.
