The iconic actress and singer was honored with the prestigious Legend and Groundbreaker Award at Variety’s 10 Directors to Watch and Creative Impact Awards brunch, held at the Parker Palm Springs on Saturday.

Going from a tenement in the Bronx to starring in Hollywood movies seemed preposterous to many—but not to me.”
Lopez also spoke about the unpredictable nature of success and the strength required to persevere. “There is no straight path to success,” she said. “Along the way, we fall, we rise, we fall better, and we rise stronger. We break ground, we break in, and we become the architects of our own destinies.”
