Lady Gaga and Joaquin Phoenix’s highly anticipated musical drama Joker: Folie à Deux made its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival last week.
The film, directed by Todd Phillips, garnered mixed reviews from critics, a response many expected for the sequel to the 2019 hit Joker.
Scheduled for theatrical release on October 4, Joker: Folie à Deux promises to stir audiences with its unique blend of musical drama and psychological thriller. Ahead of its release, Warner Bros. has dropped what is likely the final teaser—a ticket trailer that offers fresh, unseen clips.
The trailer gives fans a glimpse into the darker and more surreal aspects of the film. One key scene features Joaquin Phoenix’s Arthur Fleck, aka The Joker, in a tense interrogation by Steve Coogan’s character.
Coogan’s character questions Fleck about what has changed in the two years since he killed talk show host Murray Franklin (played by Robert De Niro in the first film). Fleck’s chilling response: “I’m not alone anymore,” hints at his deepening bond with Lady Gaga’s Harley Quinn.
The trailer also includes mesmerizing sequences of Arthur and Harley dancing in dreamlike scenes, further emphasizing the film’s musical and theatrical elements.
Lady Gaga’s portrayal of Harley Quinn is expected to add a new layer of complexity to the character, contrasting with Margot Robbie’s earlier rendition in the Suicide Squad films.
Though spoilers have not surfaced, early test screenings suggest the film’s ending will be highly divisive. There are hints that Arthur Fleck may meet his demise, leaving audiences divided on whether the conclusion offers closure or opens new questions.
When asked about the possibility of a third film, director Todd Phillips remained cryptic. “Did you see the movie?” he asked, before adding that Arthur Fleck’s story as The Joker has been fully explored in Joker: Folie à Deux.
With its October release looming, fans are eager to see how this final chapter unfolds.
