Former Hillsong pastor Carl Lentz reveals how his 2020 infidelity scandal damaged his close friendship with Justin Bieber and led to his family leaving the couple’s apartment.

Former Hillsong pastor Carl Lentz has revealed how his infidelity scandal damaged his friendship with Justin Bieber and Hailey Bieber, forcing his family to leave the couple’s apartment in 2020.

In his new book, Overcoming Infidelity: 10 Conversations to Help You Heal the Hurt, written with his wife, Laura Lentz, Carl reflects on the consequences of his dismissal from Hillsong Church over what it described as a “moral failure”.

Laura revealed that Justin and Hailey had generously allowed their family of five to stay at their home in Brooklyn while they searched for permanent accommodation.

However, following the public revelation of Carl’s infidelity in November 2020, someone from Justin’s team reportedly contacted them and asked them to vacate the apartment within 24 hours.

“We hastily packed our things and loaded them into a rented U-Haul,” Laura recalled.

Carl described the sudden departure as a “kick to the ribs”, admitting that although he deserved the consequences of his actions, he felt his wife and children were innocent victims.

He also acknowledged that the scandal dragged Justin and Hailey into unwanted public attention, describing the situation as a “publicity nightmare they never asked for”.

Carl’s revelations offer a glimpse into how his personal scandal affected relationships beyond his marriage and former church community.
