K-Electric (KE) has reminded customers about the designated peak hours under the Time of Use (ToU) tariff system, encouraging eligible consumers to reduce the use of high-power electrical appliances during these hours to help lower their monthly electricity bills.
The advisory is particularly relevant for residential consumers using ToU meters, where electricity rates vary depending on the time of day.
According to KE, the peak billing period runs from 6:30 PM to 10:30 PM during the months of April through October.
The utility has advised customers to limit the use of heavy appliances such as air conditioners, electric water pumps, and electric irons during this time.
Shifting the use of these appliances to off-peak hours can help reduce electricity costs while also easing demand on the power distribution network.
The advisory applies to residential consumers with a sanctioned electrical load of 5 kW or above, which generally includes homes equipped with three-phase electricity connections.
These customers are billed under the Time of Use (ToU) framework, where electricity prices are determined by whether energy is consumed during peak or off-peak periods.
Under the current ToU structure, electricity consumed during peak hours is billed at a higher rate than energy used during off-peak hours. Peak-hour tariffs generally range between Rs. 42.00 and Rs. 48.50 per unit, while off-peak electricity is typically charged at approximately Rs. 30.00 to Rs. 35.50 per unit. The exact rate may vary depending on the applicable tariff category and regulatory adjustments.
By using energy-intensive appliances outside the designated peak period, consumers can potentially reduce their overall electricity expenses without significantly changing their daily routines.
