KPT manages two foreign bulk carriers carrying 50,000 tonnes of DAP fertiliser and 51,000 tonnes of wheat, supporting agricultural production and food security.

Karachi, November 1, 2026: Karachi Port Trust (KPT) has simultaneously handled two foreign bulk carriers carrying a combined 101,000 tonnes of diammonium phosphate (DAP) fertiliser and wheat, Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry said on Sunday.

The minister praised KPT engineers, port operators, pilots, terminal operators, dockworkers and transporters for efficiently managing both vessels and maintaining cargo discharge operations.

The vessels, MV ZHONG CHANG 538 and MV GOKOVA M, carrying 50,000 tonnes of DAP fertiliser and 51,000 tonnes of wheat, respectively, were berthed at Karachi Gateway Terminal Multipurpose (KGML).

According to KPT operational data, MV ZHONG CHANG 538 was berthed at Berth 10/11, where 48,525 tonnes of DAP had been discharged. The vessel recorded a discharge rate of 5,481 tonnes in the preceding 24 hours.

Meanwhile, MV GOKOVA M was berthed at Berth 16/17, with more than 7,200 tonnes of wheat discharged while unloading continued.

Junaid Chaudhry said the simultaneous handling demonstrated KPT’s operational capacity and commitment to improving berth utilisation, cargo-handling efficiency and supply chain performance.

He added that the Ministry of Maritime Affairs was pursuing reforms to reduce vessel turnaround times, modernise port management and strengthen maritime infrastructure to facilitate international trade and ensure uninterrupted supplies of essential commodities.

KPT Chairman Rear Admiral Shahid Ahmed said the vessels had been given priority berthing on government directives, highlighting Karachi Port’s importance in facilitating agricultural imports and essential food supplies.

He reaffirmed KPT’s commitment to expanding cargo-handling capacity and improving infrastructure to support Pakistan’s trade and economic activity.
