Karachi weather: Temperature to reach 39°C as hot, dry conditions persist

Pakistan Meteorological Department forecasts continued sunshine and heat in Karachi, with cooler mornings and nights expected from mid-November.

KARACHI, October 19, 2026: Karachi is expected to experience hot and dry weather over the coming days, with temperatures reaching 39°C, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).

The department forecast a minimum temperature of 26°C and a maximum of 39°C on Monday and Tuesday, with the mercury expected to ease slightly to 38°C on Wednesday. Sunny conditions are likely to persist throughout the three-day period.

Deputy Director of the Met Department in Karachi, Anjum Nazir Zaigham, said maritime winds and north-westerly winds from Balochistan would influence weather conditions. He described October’s heat as a normal seasonal phenomenon during the transition towards winter.

Zaigham said cooler mornings and nights were expected to begin around mid-November, while colder conditions would likely arrive between early and mid-December. Temperatures during winter were expected to remain within the normal seasonal range.

Karachi has experienced persistent heat since September. On September 21, temperatures reached 40.7°C at the PMD’s Pehlwan Goth weather station, making it the city’s hottest September day in nine years and surpassing the previous record of 40.5°C set in 2017.

The PMD attributed the intense heat to an atmospheric circulation over the Arabian Sea that altered wind patterns, alongside weaker south-westerly sea breezes. The department had also warned that October could be warmer than usual following the early end of the monsoon season.

The latest forecast indicates that hot conditions will continue in the short term, although a gradual seasonal shift towards cooler weather is expected next month.
