Kia Sets Record with 3.1 Million Global Vehicle Sales in 2023

Kia Corporation reported a remarkable global sales figure of 3,085,771 vehicles for the year 2023, marking a significant 6.3 percent increase compared to the same period last year.

The company’s 2023 sales outside of Korea experienced a robust 6.7 percent surge, reaching 2,516,383 units, excluding special purpose vehicles. Meanwhile, domestic sales in Korea witnessed a commendable 4.6 percent rise, totaling 563,660 units.

Although global monthly sales for December 2023 dipped by 9.2 percent compared to December 2022, with 213,543 vehicles sold, Kia’s overall annual performance surpassed its previous record set in 2014, totaling 3,038,552 units.

Highlighting specific achievements, Kia excelled in major markets such as the U.S., Europe, and India, contributing to the brand’s highest yearly sales in these regions.

Notably, the Sportage SUV emerged as the top-selling model for 2023, boasting 523,502 units, followed by the Seltos SUV (344,013 units) and the Sorento SUV (242,892 units).

The company attributed its stellar performance to the successful launch of competitive new models, including the Kia EV9, as well as the introduction of the new Sorento SUV, K5 sedan, and Carnival MPV.

Increased vehicle production and supply, facilitated by the resolution of semiconductor disruptions, also played a pivotal role in achieving these milestones.

Looking ahead to 2024, Kia has set an ambitious target of 3.2 million global sales units. Regionally, the brand aims to sell 530,000 units in Korea and 2,663,000 vehicles overseas, with an additional 7,000 special purpose vehicles.

Kia’s strategic focus for the coming year includes enhancing customer value and profitability, solidifying its leadership in the global EV market, and expanding its PBV (Purpose Built Vehicles) business.

The company plans to introduce new EV models, enhance connectivity technology, and complete the redevelopment of the Kia AutoLand Gwangmyeong EV plant, which will produce the compact EV3 for both domestic and international markets.
