KSE-100 falls 353 points as PSX trading activity weakens

The benchmark index closed 0.21% lower at 167,089 points as trading volume and value declined in the ready market.

The KSE-100 Index of the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) closed lower on Friday, shedding 352.63 points, or 0.21%, to settle at 167,089.28 points, compared with 167,441.91 points in the previous trading session.

Trading activity weakened during the session, with both share volume and traded value declining in the ready market. The benchmark’s modest fall came amid a mixed performance across listed companies.

Trading Volume and Value Decline

The ready market recorded a trading volume of 309.412 million shares, down from 365.870 million shares in the previous session.

Traded value decreased to Rs15.438 billion, compared with Rs17.722 billion a day earlier, while market capitalisation fell to Rs18.569 trillion from Rs18.598 trillion.

Of the 497 companies that traded in the ready market, 243 advanced, 203 declined and 51 remained unchanged, reflecting a mixed trend despite the benchmark’s negative close.

Cnergyico PK Leads Volume Chart

Cnergyico PK was the most actively traded stock, with 27.277 million shares changing hands. Pakistan Refinery Limited followed with 24.123 million shares, while Treet Corporation Limited recorded a volume of 22.904 million shares.

Among the top gainers, Khairpur Sugar Mills Limited rose Rs67.77 to close at Rs745.47. Sapphire Fibres Limited gained Rs39.44 to settle at Rs1,033.77.

On the losing side, PIA Holding Company Limited fell Rs683.50 to close at Rs14,494.00, while Unilever Pakistan Foods Limited declined Rs344.99 to Rs25,055.01.

Futures Market Activity Also Slows

Trading activity also eased in the futures (DFC) market. Turnover stood at 78.244 million shares, with a traded value of Rs5.277 billion, compared with 97.930 million shares worth Rs6.480 billion in the previous session.

Of the 293 companies traded in the DFC market, 128 advanced, 157 declined and eight remained unchanged.

The decline in ready and futures market turnover indicated reduced trading activity, while the benchmark ended the session marginally lower.
