KSE-100 index sheds 814 points as selling pressure persists

Pakistan’s benchmark index falls 0.49% to close at 165,151.64 amid cautious investor sentiment and continuing macroeconomic and geopolitical concerns.

KARACHI: The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) extended its downward momentum on Tuesday, with the benchmark KSE-100 Index shedding 814.44 points, or 0.49%, to close at 165,151.64.

The index had closed at 165,966.08 in the previous session. During Tuesday’s trading, it fluctuated between an intraday high of 166,425.56 and a low of 165,111.14, reflecting persistent selling pressure and cautious investor sentiment.

Major contributors to the decline included ATRL, ENGROH, SYS, HBL and HUBC, which collectively dragged the benchmark down by approximately 348 points. Weakness in these heavyweight stocks reinforced the bearish trend throughout the session.

Market participants remained cautious amid lingering macroeconomic and geopolitical concerns, weighing on investor confidence and limiting the market’s ability to recover during the day.

According to the closing data, the KSE-100 recorded trading volume of 144.46 million shares, while the traded value of the index constituents stood at approximately Rs8.22 billion.

However, broader market activity was reported at around 446 million shares, with total traded value reaching approximately Rs19.4 billion.

The latest decline highlights continued volatility at the Pakistan Stock Exchange as investors monitor economic developments and market-specific triggers.

The benchmark’s performance in the coming sessions will depend on investor sentiment, corporate activity and developments affecting Pakistan’s economic outlook.
