Sri Lanka captain Kusal Mendis will miss the three-match T20I series against England as he continues rehabilitation from a hamstring injury, while Binura Fernando is also ruled out with a back injury.
COLOMBO: Sri Lanka white-ball captain Kusal Mendis will miss the upcoming three-match T20I series against England as he continues his rehabilitation from a right hamstring injury sustained during the Lanka Premier League 2026.
Left-arm pacer Binura Fernando will also miss the series after suffering a back injury during the tournament.
Sri Lanka Cricket said both players remain under rehabilitation and will not be available for the T20I series in England.
Mendis remains in ODI squad
Mendis had originally been named captain of both Sri Lanka’s T20I and ODI squads. Binura Fernando was also included in the T20I squad.
However, Pavan Rathnayake and Dilshan Madushanka have been called up as replacements.
While Mendis remains part of Sri Lanka’s ODI squad, Charith Asalanka will captain the team during the T20I series against England.

Sri Lanka will therefore play three T20Is before beginning the three-match ODI series against England on September 22.
