Lahore Qalandars edge Quetta Gladiators in last-over PSL thriller

Pakistan Super League

LAHORE, April 21, 2026 – Lahore Qalandars held their nerve in a last-over thriller to defeat Quetta Gladiators by nine runs in the 30th match of the Pakistan Super League at Gaddafi Stadium on Tuesday.

Chasing a challenging 198, Quetta fell just short at 188-7 in their 20 overs despite a strong start and late resistance. Lahore’s bowling attack, led by Haris Rauf, delivered under pressure to seal a crucial victory in the closing stages.

Quetta’s innings began brightly as Shamyl Hussain and captain Saud Shakeel put on 49 runs for the opening wicket. However, Sikandar Raza broke the stand, dismissing Saud for 17. Shamyl continued his fine form, scoring a fluent 53 off 31 balls, but a sharp run-out engineered by Daniel Sams shifted momentum.

Quetta then suffered a collapse as Haris Rauf struck twice, including the wicket of Hasan Nawaz on the very next ball. Rilee Rossouw counterattacked with a blistering 62 off 29 balls, but his dismissal by Ubaid Shah left the visitors struggling at 149-5.

With 19 runs required in the final over, Abrar Ahmed fought back with an unbeaten 24, but Rauf conceded just nine runs in the last over to secure the win.

Earlier, Lahore posted 197-6 after opting to bat, powered by a superb century from Fakhar Zaman, who was named Player of the Match. He struck 103 off 51 balls, hitting 11 fours and six sixes, anchoring the innings after an early setback.

Zaman shared key partnerships with Abdullah Shafique and Charith Asalanka, the latter contributing 31 runs in a 96-run stand. Late wickets by Khalil Ahmed and Usman Tariq slowed Lahore’s momentum, but a quick cameo from Daniel Sams ensured a competitive total.

The result boosts Lahore’s position in the standings as the league stage nears its conclusion, while Quetta will need to regroup quickly to keep their playoff hopes alive in a tightly contested tournament.
