South Africa’s rising star, Kwena Maphaka, has sent a strong message to Indian batters as the 2024 ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup semi-final approaches in Benoni.
Maphaka, who has been the standout performer of the tournament, is determined to make things challenging for the Indian team in the upcoming clash.
The left-arm quick has rapidly ascended in the cricket world, evolving from a 16-year-old talent in the 2022 ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup to a key player in South Africa’s U19 cricket squad.
Hailing from the same school as the renowned Kagiso Rabada, Maphaka attributes his rapid development to his unwavering passion for the sport and his natural aggression on the field. With a devastating inswinger and lethal yorkers in his arsenal, he sees his aggression as his greatest asset, drawing parallels with Rabada.
“I know I am right up there with some of the best bowlers in the tournament,” Maphaka confidently stated.
Reflecting on Rabada’s iconic performance in the 2014 U19 World Cup semi-final, Maphaka expressed admiration for the South African superstar and his desire to replicate such heroics.
Maphaka’s statistics showcase his incredible talent and form, leading the wickets table with an outstanding 18 wickets at an average of 9.55, an unprecedented achievement in the tournament’s history.

“Having the whole country come to back you would be truly insane,” he exclaimed. “The vibe is very different, you know [when the crowd’s behind you]. It’s something that pushes me.”
