Manchester United midfielder Mason Mount was forced off early during the club’s 1-1 pre-season draw against PSG in Gothenburg.
Manchester United suffered an injury setback during their pre-season clash with Paris Saint-Germain as Mason Mount was forced to leave the pitch during the opening stages of the match in Gothenburg on Saturday.
Mount, who has featured prominently during United’s pre-season preparations, was substituted in the 20th minute after appearing to suffer an injury. Tyler Fletcher came on to replace the England international as the coaching staff opted not to risk further aggravating the problem.
The midfielder managed to walk and jog off the pitch without assistance before being assessed by Manchester United’s medical team on the touchline. The club had yet to determine the seriousness of the issue, leaving open the possibility that the substitution was primarily precautionary.
The development nevertheless represents an unwanted concern for United manager Michael Carrick, particularly with the club continuing its search for another midfield addition during the summer transfer window. Mount’s availability will be closely monitored as preparations for the new campaign continue.
Manchester United faced another injury scare after veteran goalkeeper Tom Heaton was taken off during the second half. Heaton appeared to be holding his hamstring before being replaced by Dermot Mee.
Despite the setbacks, United produced a spirited performance to secure a 1-1 draw against the reigning UEFA Champions League winners.
PSG made a rapid start, taking the lead in only the second minute through 18-year-old Ibrahim Mbaye. The French side created the opening after Khvicha Kvaratskhelia delivered a clever pass for Dro Fernandez, who sent a low cross into the United penalty area.
Fernandez’s delivery evaded the sliding Ayden Heaven before Mbaye arrived at the far post to finish the move and put PSG ahead.
United responded strongly and levelled the contest in the 32nd minute through Bryan Mbeumo. Amad Diallo won possession and advanced before finding Mbeumo on the left side of the penalty area.
Mbeumo controlled the ball before producing a composed finish across the goalkeeper and into the far corner, restoring parity.
The draw provided United with a positive result, but Mount’s injury remains the major concern from the encounter as the club continues preparations for the upcoming season.
