Met Gala 2025: a dazzling celebration of Tailored Black Style

The iconic Met Gala is set to return in grand style on Monday, May 5, 2025, once again gracing the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.

Recognized as fashion’s most prestigious night, the Met Gala 2025 promises to deliver unforgettable moments, bold sartorial statements, and a tribute to centuries of Black style and influence in fashion.

This year’s theme, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” aligns with the Costume Institute’s Spring 2025 exhibition. The event is inspired by Monica L. Miller’s influential 2009 book Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity. The exhibition will explore how Black identity has been shaped through a fusion of African and European aesthetics, especially during the Atlantic diaspora. According to Miller, “Dandyism asks questions about identity, representation, and mobility in relation to race, class, gender, sexuality, and power.”

Organized into 12 themed sections, the exhibition examines the legacy and evolution of Black menswear through the lens of dandyism—highlighting elegance, self-expression, and cultural defiance.

The official Met Gala 2025 dress code, “Tailored for You,” invites guests to reimagine traditional menswear through a personalized and creative lens. This dress code pays tribute to the exhibit’s focus on the refined, custom-tailored style that Black men have embraced and redefined over generations.

This year’s Gala will be co-chaired by Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, A$AP Rocky, and Pharrell Williams, with LeBron James joining as an honorary chair. Vogue’s Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour will once again oversee the event as presiding co-chair. A star-studded host committee includes Usher, Regina King, Simone Biles, Spike Lee, Janelle Monáe, and others.

Once inside the Met, over 450 invited guests will enjoy a no-phone policy, creating an intimate atmosphere. Attendees will enjoy cocktails, a gourmet dinner curated by chef Kwame Onwuachi, and live performances. Guests will also have private access to the exhibition.

Fans can tune into the Met Gala livestream on Vogue’s digital platforms and YouTube channel starting at 6 p.m. EST, capturing every unforgettable moment of this year’s glamorous Gala.
