Meta Introduces HD Video Calls, AI for Facebook Messenger

Meta has unveiled a series of significant updates to enhance the Facebook Messenger experience, introducing HD video calls, background noise suppression, and voice isolation.

These updates aim to deliver clearer and more immersive communication, with the company emphasizing that calls will now “feel more than ever like being in a room together.”

HD Video Calling and Audio Enhancements

HD video calling is now available by default for Wi-Fi calls, while users on mobile data can enable it manually in the app’s settings.

Alongside this, the new background noise suppression and voice isolation features ensure higher-quality audio by reducing distractions and emphasizing the speaker’s voice. Both features can be activated via call settings, offering a customizable and seamless experience.

New Messaging Options for Missed Calls

Messenger users can now leave audio or video messages when their friends are unavailable to answer calls. By tapping the “record message” option, users can send personalized messages in both formats, adding convenience and flexibility for asynchronous communication.

AI-Generated Video Call Backgrounds Coming Soon

To make video calls more engaging, Messenger will soon roll out AI-generated backgrounds. This feature allows users to customize their call environment by selecting effects from the sidebar during a video call. Meta describes this as a way to “add a little excitement to your call,” making virtual interactions more dynamic and personalized.

Siri Integration for iOS Users

iPhone users now have the added convenience of Siri integration. With this feature, Siri can assist in making Messenger calls or sending messages, streamlining the process for hands-free operation.

These updates reflect Meta’s ongoing commitment to refining the Messenger app, enhancing both functionality and user experience. With features like HD calls, customizable AI backgrounds, and voice enhancements, Facebook Messenger aims to remain a competitive choice for communication in an ever-evolving digital landscape.
