United have invested heavily this summer but Carrick believes further additions are needed to compete with Premier League rivals.
Michael Carrick has called on Manchester United to continue strengthening their squad as the club prepares for a renewed Premier League title challenge. The United manager believes additional quality and depth will be essential if the team is to compete with the league’s leading sides while also managing a Champions League campaign.
Manchester United have invested approximately £85 million ($114 million) since the end of last season, bringing in Andrey Santos, Youri Tielemans and Karl Darlow.
However, their spending remains modest compared with several major title contenders, including Manchester City, Arsenal and Chelsea, who have committed significant sums to high-profile recruits.
Carrick is aware of the pressure surrounding United as they attempt to challenge for their first English league title since 2013. He believes the club must continue exploring opportunities in the transfer market and make the most of its resources before the new season begins.
The former United midfielder guided the team to third place in the Premier League after taking charge on an interim basis following Ruben Amorim’s departure. His successful spell led to his appointment as permanent manager, raising expectations ahead of the upcoming campaign.
United supporters have expressed concern over the club’s relatively limited spending, particularly with the Premier League opener against Hull approaching on August 22. Carrick acknowledged the financial differences between clubs but stressed that United must continue pushing to improve their squad and performance.
Another major talking point is Marcus Rashford, who has returned to Manchester United after spending last season on loan at Barcelona. The Spanish club chose not to activate its purchase option for the England forward, leaving uncertainty over his future at Old Trafford.
Carrick considers Rashford an important asset and believes the 28-year-old can provide a different dimension to the squad. His return could therefore become significant as United seek greater attacking strength.
Despite the challenges, Carrick remains ambitious about United’s prospects. He believes the squad has the potential to achieve something special and expects the club to target the highest honours. With the Premier League title firmly in their sights, further recruitment could prove crucial to turning that ambition into reality.
