Mitsubishi unveils all-new 2027 Pajero as global flagship SUV

The redesigned Pajero combines proven off-road capability with premium comfort, advanced four-wheel-drive technology and a more prestigious flagship identity.

Mitsubishi Motors Corporation has officially unveiled the all-new Mitsubishi Pajero, introducing the fully redesigned cross-country SUV as a new-generation flagship designed to represent the future direction of the Japanese automaker.

The world premiere marks the return of the iconic Pajero nameplate with a significantly upgraded approach to performance, comfort and premium appeal. Mitsubishi plans to build the new SUV at its production facility in Thailand.

Global Launch Plans

The all-new Pajero will initially enter the Thai market, with launches in Japan and Australia scheduled during fiscal 2026. From fiscal 2027, Mitsubishi Motors intends to expand the SUV’s availability to around 100 countries and regions.

The planned global rollout will include markets across ASEAN, Latin America and the Middle East, underlining the company’s ambition to make the Pajero a key model within its international lineup.

Iconic Pajero Legacy

First introduced in 1982, the Pajero established itself as a capable 4WD vehicle that combined genuine off-road performance and durability with the comfort expected from a passenger vehicle.

Across four generations, Mitsubishi produced more than 3.29 million Pajero units. The SUV developed a strong following in more than 170 countries and regions and played an important role in Mitsubishi’s growth during Japan’s recreational vehicle boom in the 1990s.

The new-generation model builds on this heritage while adding a stronger premium character. Mitsubishi describes its development philosophy around three core qualities: Confidence, Comfort and Prestige.

Advanced 4WD Technology

The all-new Pajero features Mitsubishi’s Super-All Wheel Control (S-AWC) system, which integrates acceleration, cornering and braking control to provide more predictable and precise handling.

It also receives Super Select 4WD-II (SS4-II), designed to combine strong off-road capability with convenient everyday driving characteristics. A rigid ladder-frame construction and specially tuned suspension further contribute to durability, stability and improved tire contact with the road.

Premium Flagship Design

Visually, the new Pajero adopts bold proportions and strong horizontal lines to create a commanding road presence. Its interior receives a refined treatment aimed at improving comfort for all occupants while retaining dimensions suitable for everyday maneuverability.

Mitsubishi has also incorporated design elements inspired by earlier Pajero generations, connecting the new SUV with its established identity.

Mitsubishi President and COO Keisuke Kishiura said the all-new Pajero represents the company’s long-term vision of developing distinctive products while strengthening its brand identity. As the new flagship, the SUV is expected to lead the future Pajero family and play a significant role across Mitsubishi’s wider global lineup.
