Monsoon Update: Karachi at Risk of Water Logging Due to Heavy Rains – July 25, 2023

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued warnings of heavy rains and potential water logging in Karachi and other parts of the country.

The forecast indicates widespread rain, wind, and thundershowers in Balochistan, Sindh, and South Punjab, as well as scattered rain in Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Islamabad, upper Punjab, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Specifically, heavy rainfall is expected in south Punjab, northeast and south Balochistan, and Sindh during this period. Flash flooding is likely in local Nullahs of Dera Ghazi Khan, northeast & south Balochistan, and heavy falls may trigger landslides in vulnerable areas of Kashmir, Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Buner, Manshera, Abbotabad, Murree, and Galliyat from July 24th to 26th.

The areas at risk of water logging in Sindh on July 24th include Tharparkar, Umarkot, Mirpur Khas, Sanghar, Khairpur, Kashmore, Ghotki, Naushahro Feroze, Shaheed Benazirabad, Matiari, Hyderabad, Tando Allah Yar, Tando Muhammad Khan, Badin, Thatta, Sajawal, Karachi, and Hyderabad.

Monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal continue to affect the country’s weather.
