Islamabad, February 19, 2024 – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a forecast predicting continued rainfall in Islamabad on Tuesday, February 20, 2024.

The weather system is expected to bring more rain, wind, and thunderstorms, accompanied by snowfall over hills in various regions, including Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Potohar, and Islamabad.

The PMD’s weather forecast for Monday, February 19, 2024, warned of similar conditions, with more rain, wind, and thunderstorms, along with snowfall over hills in several areas. The affected regions included Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, upper Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Potohar, Islamabad, and upper Punjab. Additionally, moderate to heavy rainfall, with snowfall over hills, was anticipated in specific locations such as Murree, Galliyat, and Potohar. The forecast also indicated the possibility of isolated hailstorms during the mentioned period.

An alert was issued by the PMD, cautioning that heavy rain and snowfall could lead to road closures in various areas, including Murree, Galiyat, Naran, Kaghan, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Astore, Hunza, Diamir, Skardu, Neelum valley, Bagh, Poonch, and Havellian from February 19th to 20th. There is also a potential risk of landslides in upper Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galiyat, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan during this period.

The synoptic situation was attributed to a westerly wave affecting the upper parts of the country, influencing the ongoing weather conditions.

Over the past 24 hours, rain, wind, and thunderstorms with snowfall over hills occurred in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Kashmir, Islamabad, northeast Punjab, Gilgit-Baltistan, and northern Balochistan. Meanwhile, cold and dry weather prevailed in other parts of the country.

The recorded snowfall in inches during this period includes Kalam 38, Malamjabba 23, Drosh 14, Chitral 7.3, Mirkhani 4.5, Dir (upper) 3.3, Skardu 2.9, Kotli 01, and Ziarat 0.5 inches.

The lowest minimum temperatures recorded today were Kalam -05, Malamjabba -04, and Gupis -03 degrees Celsius.
