Motorola Edge (2024) Debuts in US with 144Hz OLED

Motorola has expanded its lineup in the US with the launch of the new mid-range Motorola Edge (2024). This model, priced at $550, boasts impressive features including a curved 144Hz OLED display and the powerful Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 chipset.

The Motorola Edge (2024) mirrors the international Edge 50 Fusion but offers enhancements such as a superior display and wireless charging capabilities. Compared to last year’s Edge (2023), it introduces a new chipset and a larger battery.

The device features a stunning 6.6” P-OLED panel, which Motorola dubs an “endless edge” display. This screen curves on both sides, offering an FHD+ resolution (20:9) and reaching peak brightness of 1,300 nits. With DC dimming, 720Hz PWM, 10-bit color support, and a 144Hz refresh rate, it ensures vibrant and smooth visuals. The touch sampling rate is 360Hz, and the display is protected by Gorilla Glass 3.

Under the hood, the Edge (2024) is powered by the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2 processor, paired with 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 256GB of storage. It runs on Android 14 and features a USB-C port supporting USB 3.1/DisplayPort 1.4.

The device supports 68W fast charging, allowing the 5,000mAh battery to reach 50% in just 15 minutes. It also includes 15W wireless charging, an upgrade over the Edge 50 Fusion which lacks this feature.

In terms of build, the Edge (2024) is slightly thicker and heavier than its predecessor, measuring 8.1mm and weighing 174g. The faux leather back adds a touch of elegance and durability.

For photography enthusiasts, the main camera is equipped with a 50MP Sony Lytia 700C sensor, featuring quad PDAF and OIS. It is complemented by a 13MP ultra-wide-angle camera that doubles as a macro shooter. Both cameras can record 4K video at 30fps, while the main camera also supports 1080p at 60fps. The 32MP selfie camera offers 1080p video recording at 60fps.

Despite lacking a headphone jack, the Edge (2024) includes stereo speakers with Dolby Atmos for an immersive audio experience. Connectivity options are robust, including 5G sub-6GHz, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, and NFC. It also supports dual-SIM functionality with one physical nano SIM and one eSIM.

The Motorola Edge (2024) is IP68 rated, ensuring water resistance up to 1.5 meters for 30 minutes.

Available from June 20, the Motorola Edge (2024) can be purchased through Motorola’s website, Amazon, Best Buy, and carriers like T-Mobile and MVNOs on Verizon and AT&T.
